Please don't Poke the Cheese

I just heard Matt say that to Ezra from the kitchen and wished I had saved all of those phrases we hear the kids say or we say ourselves to the kids.....Matt and Ezra are making an omelette. I will be making sweet rolls soon. Henry is talking to his nana.
We have pretty much decided to go to New York for the summer. Matt has wanted to go. The only qualms I had were missing my garden, missing friends here, having our own space and missing the freedom Henry has here. That is a lot of things to miss but I think the benefits of going to New York outweigh the benefits of staying behind. The garden thing is big for me but I will have more gardens and I can still garden in both places a bit. I want Matt to help his brothers build his parents house. I miss our community there. I love watching the boys with their grandparents/ aunts and uncles. Those are very important relationships for both of them. I think going to New York will allow some space that these two boys need. They have been fighting so much! Matty and I will be able to go on some dates....Maybe I will start yogging again. I made the decision yesterday when I was already fuming at 8:30 in the morning....I don't want to be this mommy!!!!AAAArrrggghhhh Why do theyr fight so much? I was sure I would have a Willameena and a Louisa who would quietly play with dolls. I know not every girl is quiet and easy but I have taught many little ones and there is a definite gender pattern.I don'thave any new pics so here is one of me in my new glasses which I am wearing all the time. Sometimes I feel like I am backsliding into my 7th grade ... awkward phase, crazy hair and glasses loud plaid shirts... Scary...

Yay! I love the glasses and crazy hair. And I am SO happy to hear you'll be back for the summer! (I know it's too far to doula... that was just a last-ditched attempt to get more of you!)

I'm sorry to hear the boys are in a fighting phase, but it won't last forever. And remember, if you had girls they might not be screaming, but the might be conducting subterfuge wars of cruelty and ego teardown that would cause years of insecurity and psychological instability! Yay boys!

That is so true...Their teenage years would be the end of me...

I agree, trust me as a middle school teacher, boys are much more active and physical but the girls are just plain mean, snotty and vindictive! I have to say both are frustrating in their own ways, I think with teenagers you just can't win,(maybe this is why I am so scared to have children, because I am constantly surrounded by teenagers! but as my mother-in-law keeps telling me, they don't come out at age 13!) but there are always these glimmers and moments of seeing what awesome adults they are going to be and then I feel better about the total and complete lack of self-control they have now!

What about brothers and sisters...the worst of both! You scrap and yell at each other AND wage little quiet manipulative wars!

I am happy you will be in the finger Lakes this summer. I am sad I won't be there too. I will try to get up for a quick visit because I need more lake smells and would really like to see the progress on the house, maybe even help out.

You should also spend a weekend down this way too. I know we are trying to work something out with M. for a visit at some point, and it could also be fun for both of you to come together with or without the boys, but if you need a mini mommy vacation the door is open for a girls' weekend too.
